Postby brianoc15 » June 14th, 2010, 12:44 am

Hello all,

In the search for a logo for DCP we will be holding a logo design competition. There may be a prize, and the deadline is probably going to be soon. So if you have ideas, send them into us at dublincircusproject@gmail.com or talk to one of the committee. more details as they are confirmed but i just thought i'd give a heads up :)

Hey so here's the update brief for the logo for the Dublin Circus Project.

Gopher Games will be putting up €50 worth of stock for the prize. We haven't discussed a deadline but i'll put one down for August the 15th. I know a lot of people will be away at EJC and conventions and stuff so i figured just give it a long enough one.

Dublin Circus Project Creative Logo Brief

Requirement
Logo designed for the Dublin Circus Project using the words in full and any other imagery deemed relevant.

Context / Background to the brief
The Dublin circus project is established to promote and develop the circus arts in Dublin with ultimate aim of setting up a circus school in Dublin. We will be providing workshops for a range of people including community organisations, companies and other groups and aim to bring professional performers to Ireland to provide more advanced workshops as well across the full spectrum of circus arts.
In addition we aim to host performances in events across the county bringing more circus acts to the people.

Objective
The logo will serve as our identity and will be present on everything and anything that we do and will be used as a platform for other designs including leaflets, posters, banners, website artwork etc.
It should be easy to identify and incorporate elements of Dublin and Circus in it. It should be fun, fresh and vibrant and also look professional as well to show that this is an organisation/collective which is serious about what it does.

Audience
The audience for this is everyone and anyone from adults to children young and old so anything that is designed shouldn’t alienate any particular group (I.e. making it too adult or corporate or additionally making it too geared towards children)

Tagline
The Dublin Circus Project – Bringing Circus to the Dublin

Large as possible is the rule with logos... a large image can be reduced retaining quality but a small image can not be enlarged and maintain quality...

I forgot to mention that the logo should be in illustrator format or photoshop and high res. That way it can be scaled up or down as necessary.

In terms of wording, it would need to be the full Dublin Circus Project as people won't know who we are otherwise.

Ok so I have an idea for one but I can't draw to save myself...or do any photoshop stuff so I'm gonna try explain it here and someone can take it further if they like the idea..

So basically it's 2 people(1 boy, 1 girl) in Dublin (you could have the spire or something else to represent dublin in the background) and they are made of props. Like a face could be a ring, diabolo- a bow for the girl, clubs for arms or lags or even the main bit of the body...the guy could wear a manipulation hat...staff could make for limbs either...cigar boxes for a body....etc.....and one of them could be upside down on a trapeze or something....

yeah.....The end! :D

Yeah I thought that alright..but ya could make it look simple...it is essentially only 2 people...or 1 even...It probably wouldn't look professional enough though...there are much better logos out there like...

i can see what ur gettin at but when u make a logo it has to be able to go as small or as big as needed like if that was printed on a flyer for somethin that the Dublin Circus Project was taking part in it may be small and thus illegable! try to have flexablity and simplicty with logos.

not too many colours cuz it has top be able to be printed in black an white too and assume that it will be printed hundreds of times over in many sizes., e.g. t-shirts, hoodies, posters, newsletters and so on! so having 2 colours is the best bet!

these are guidelines and sometimes you'll find logos that dont follow these but sometimes it works for those companys.
Remember that you're unique.... (sigh) just like everyone else...
